I've seen some of you mentioned books of Anita Shreve. I've read "Light On Snow" by her but didn't enjoy it much. Last book I've read was "31 Dream Street" by Lisa Jewell, I really liked it. Now I've started "The Marrying Game" by Kate Saunders, will see if it's any good

Hmmm, I'm not much 'into' the female authors (must try some one day!! ) and, alas, I haven't read much of anything lately.

I've recently finished a David Baldacci book called 'The Whole Truth'. It deals with a construct called "perception management"; a very interesting, and very real, concept. Good book!

I'm currently reading Nutrition for Blokes, by Quentin Grady. Nope, I'm not thinking of becoming a bloke! But I knew Quentin and was intrigued to find that he had written this book in his last years, while he was fighting illnesses.
Quentin was a very dry, intellectual bloke. Sometimes he spoke in a fashion that lost my concentration cos I didn't understand it. No matter, cos I still liked him. There was something about Quentin that made him extremely interesting. He was an engineer and a teacher and a wonderful husband to a friend of mine.
The book is surprisingly easy to read. I half expected he would have written it in a very methodical, research type way. But no. It is full of very dry humour, and very good health and nutrition facts, including good home food ways to deal with pain, inflammation and other issues. I have laughed and laughed, as I am sure anyone would, even if they didn't know him.
I am still reading it...while I know most of the nutritional information he gives, he gives it in a 'down to earth bloke' way, and this opens almost a whole new perspective. This is a sort of 'mixed read' for me, having known Quentin before he passed...sad, yet humourous and informative.

That sounds exactly like the sort of book my OH would like to read!

Oh I would recommend it for any bloke. Quentin wrote it FOR blokes, with bloke humour...funny as a fit!

As a matter of fact, yes, I have!
I was given a book called 'Viking' by Tim Severn. Alas, it was purported to be the third in a series ... and I never got to read the first two. Bleddy shame because it was a darned good read. Must try to track down the earlier ones. I'd happily re-read the third.

Have just re-read a wee book I have had a long time. It's called Big George - Autobiography of an Angel. An absolutely darling story/parable. Written by Professor James Jennings - good, fast read - have the tissues handy!
